Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC)
What is The Health and Social Care Information Centre?
The trusted source of authoritative data and information relating to health and care, HSCIC plays a fundamental role in driving better care, better services and better outcomes for patients. It supports the delivery of IT infrastructure, information systems and standards to ensure information flows efficiently and securely across the health and social care system to improve patient outcomes. Established on the 1st of April 2013 , HSCIC's remit was outlined in the Health and Social Care Act 2012 and the Government's recent information strategy for health and care in England.
Summary Care Records (SCR)
The NHS is changing how patient information is stored and shared in England, to provide better care for patients. SCRs provide healthcare staff treating patients in an emergency or out-of-hours with faster access to key clinical information.
The Spine is the name given to the national database of key information about a patient's health and care, and it forms the core of the NHS Care Records Service. The NHS consists of over 27,000 individual organisations providing care across the country through primary and secondary care sites, pharmacies, opticians, dentists and education & training establishments all of which contribute to the improved care options available for individual patients. The Spine is part of the critical national infrastructure that supports the delivery of these services and the health care provision in the UK. As such it is part of "those facilities, systems, sites and networks necessary for the functioning of the country and the delivery of the essential services upon which daily life in the UK depends".
Choose and Book
Choose and Book - making it easier and faster for GPs and other primary care staff to book hospital appointments for patients.
Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
EPS enables prescribers - such as GPs and practice nurses - to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (such as a pharmacy) of the patient's choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff.
N3/Public Services Network for Health
N3 provides fast, broadband networking services to the NHS, offering reliability and value for money. The high-speed network makes it possible to deliver the reforms and new services needed to improve patient care.
