Staff pay
Practices may pay staff on a recognised pay scale (such as Agenda for Change [AfC]) or may have their own scales. Some Practices still use the Whitley scales, although these have not been updated since 2005 - there is more information on the demise of the Whitley scales, and guidance on what action Practices should take here.
Annual increments
In cases where staff pay is linked to a recognised scale (e.g. AfC), annual increments to that scale must be applied to those staff*. In cases where Practices have their own scales, the Practice can decide what level of annual increment (if any) to provide - this can be based on indicators such as the Retail Price Index (RPI) or other inflationary indicators. Many Practices apply the AfC annual percentage increase even if they don't use the AfC pay scales.
